AJS stood for Albert John Stevens & Co. Ltd which built cars and motorcycles in Wolverhampton, England from 1909 to 1931, earning 117 motorcycle world records. After the firm was sold, the name continued to be used by Matchless, Associated Motorcycles and Norton-Villiers until 1969.  Since 1974 after the name’s resale, the AJS brand can be seen on two scramblers and on small roadsters and cruisers.
